Preventing Frozen and Burst Pipes During Cold Snaps
Even mild-winter homes lose pipes to cold snaps. Insulation, drip strategy, and outdoor faucet prep that actually prevent a burst.

Insulate the vulnerable runs
Exterior walls, garages, crawl spaces, and attic runs freeze first. Foam sleeves cost a few dollars per foot and prevent four-figure repairs.
Disconnect hoses
A hose left attached traps water in the spigot, which freezes, expands, and splits the pipe inside the wall — often unnoticed until spring.
Drip strategically
On the coldest nights, a slow drip at the fixture farthest from the main keeps water moving through the most exposed pipe.
